politics. is the party changing? marco rubio made an appearance last hour. >> the president sees this as a possibility to move this situation to the left. i think that speaks poorly for the entire outcome of this endeavor. >> we go to a buyer in new york now. he is in d.c. how about the republican party? he is thought to be one of the up-and-coming stars. is it really changing? >> not yet. we have a couple of opportunities to hear them talk about the state of the republican party and i was not a plot of talk about fundamental change. last week they met in charlotte to observe changes to the party. they formed something they called the "autopsy committee." they decided it did not sound so great so they called it the "rose and opportunity project." the re-examination of immigration, you will not get that from the rnc right now. connell: you wrote about it recently in her column. you went back and repaired the republican party today to the democratic party in 1988 leading up to 1992. is there a republican version of bill clinton out there? i am sure after 88 people remember that inf

headed by marco rubio who will want to get a lot of this credit. lori: on the political side but it also begs the question, right, greg, what happens to the millions of illegal immigrants already living and working in this country? will it put pressure on available jobs and other services like hospital care, et cetera, what do you think?. >> i don't think so. i would prefer to take a positive spin on this entire story. i think if you look at a country like japan which is a demographic train wreck with a huge deficit, much bigger than ours, we're adding lots of people who will pay social security taxes. who will pay other taxes. you're adding to our population i think a workforce that will actually help our fiscal issues far more than a country say like japan. lori: good comparison. help our fiscal issues with more people paying taxes or perhaps solve them in a period of time? >> yeah. i always thought that "the wall street journal" editorial page has gotten right when it comes to immigration. within reason you don't want to have totally open borders. that's crazy but within reason,

senator john mccain, pushing immigration reform for simple years, and florida senator marco rubio join this group as well. they are trying to get ahead of the president's speech in nevada tomorrow on his immigration plan which he introduced in 2011. just reading that over for fun. like the president, they want to create a pathway to citizenship, and their proposal includes a registration and probation program allowing illegals to stay and live and work in the united states with a green card as long as they paid back taxes and paid penalties and get in line for citizenship and approval. they also, however, want stronger border security and tracking of legal immigrants and whether or not they overstayed their welcome. they want to strengthen the employment verification system out there for immigrants, and those getting advanced degrees, ph.d. and masters in the math and the sciences. all of this is good politics, take a listen. >> look at the last election. look at the last election. we are losing dramatically the his pappic vote we think should be ours for a variety of reasons, and we g
